2025 Consumer Confidence Report

The 2025 Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) is now posted below. This annual report on the water quality from our wells was completed March 13, 2025 and covers the time from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025 (with turbidity testing in January 2026).

The Irish Hills Mutual Water Company regularly tests the water from each of our wells to ensure it meets all requirements for health and safety. The Consumer Confidence Report is an annual report on our water quality, and contains lots of detailed information to inform you of the overall quality of our water and any contaminants in our water supply.

The table on the last two pages calls out items of note. Please read the complete document for more detail. Here is a summary of the issues reported:

  • High iron levels in Well A, and manganese levels in Well 4 continue as in previous years, and are addressed by blending with water from other wells which do not contain iron or manganese. Our water filtration at the tanks site effectively reduces any remaining iron and manganese to well below the Maximum Containment Level (MCL).

Since there’s quite a bit of technical information in a CCR, it can be helpful to compare against the previous year’s CCR. Some highlights from that comparison:

  • The amount of lead detected is lower this year than the previous year, and continues to be well below the “Regulatory Action Level” (AL). AL is the concentration of a contaminant which, if exceeded, triggers treatment or other requirements that a water system must follow.

  • Iron is up from last year. The amount fluctuates quite a bit every year. Two of our wells produce high iron, but the others are low, so we mix the output of the wells to bring the iron levels down to allowable levels. Our filtration system was upgraded in December 2023 and helps bring the iron levels down even lower. There are no health issues with high iron, but bringing the levels down reduces possible unpleasant aesthetic effects (e.g. color, taste, and odor) and the staining of plumbing fixtures and clothing while washing.

  • Manganese is also higher than last year, and this is another mineral that varies a lot from year to year. Like Iron, we mix the output of several wells to bring down the level of Manganese. Also like Iron, our upgraded filtration system reduces Manganese levels in the water on the way to the storage tanks.

  • Turbidity (clarity) from runoff is higher this year than last year. We attribute that to the samples being taken in January 2026 during the rainy season. It remains within allowable levels.

Note: A definition for the acronym SMCL was left out of this report. SMCL stands for Secondary Maximum Contaminant Level: these standards are developed to protect the aesthetic qualities of drinking water and are not health-based. See the definition of Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) in the report for more information.
